About the Author A dedicated professional, Mary Ellen Guffey has taught business communication and business English topics for more than 40 years. She received a B.A., summa cum laude, from Bowling Green State University; an M.A. from the University of Illinois; and Ph.D. in business and economic education from the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA). Dr. Guffey has taught at the University of Illinois, Santa Monica College and Los Angeles Pierce College. In addition to completing numerous brand-name consulting assignments, Dr. Loewy is a business etiquette consultant certified by The Protocol School of Washington. Dr. Loewy holds an M.A. from Bonn University, Germany, and a Ph.D. in English from the University of Southern California. Fluent in several languages, including her native languages of German and Czech, Dr. Loewy has authored critical articles in many areas of interest, including literary criticism, translation, business communication and business ethics.
